In extended reality, HALO appears out of the ether, an ancient stone circle and futuristic monument suspended over deeply storied bodies of water. Its journey tracks from the ancestral harbour Te Whanganui-a-Tara in New Zealand's capital Wellington to the historic coastline of Waitangi Treaty Grounds in New Zealand Aotearoa and the traditional trade route of Manhattan's East River in New York City.

This public artwork is activated by human presence and touch. each viewer using their hand-held mobile phone to float a virtual stone circle at monumental scale between the earth, sky and sea. Through artefact and interface, HALO enmeshes humanity, nature and technology. The codified crystalline marble preserves a precious resource, at source, embedding its DNA in a sustainable sculpture. From precise geolocations, this ephemeral presence disperses sun- and moon-light, evoking the celestial haloes found across intersecting cosmologies and ancient weather lore.
