Rising from the dark, The Muses echo an ephemeral presence and infuse the senses and psyche in the alchemy of light, matter, air and time. Recalling the patron goddesses of arts and sciences, the ancient Muses inspired the creators of poetry, music, philosophy and astronomy, a revered treasury of memories and knowledge in an age before written texts. Embracing the human body, the colonnade of figures envelope their audience in the translucent skin of I/One. Silk smooth surfaces and soft internal curves entice the curious to touch. Under grey skies, the mercurial sylphs appear as solidified mist, and become crystal-clear and mirrors of life as the clouds lift.
Like mediums, The Muses speak through clairaudient realms. Soft sounds surface in the viewer's minds-eye. Between metaphysical I-beams are plus-signs that unite the collective and multiply the I-frame from the singular to the plural: Us and We. Hinged to the wall by the finger-tips, they connect to the people, the architecture and the city; a mirror of city-life on a transitional field of schwarz-grau (black-grey) anchored by a restored heritage pine beam from a tree in a wild forest which once surrounded Berlin.
